School Uniform

All students are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times and represent Taiātea proudly and positively wherever they are.

Day Uniform

The following information relates to the day uniform requirements for all uri.

Boys

Compulsory
School grey cargo shorts
School polo shirt
Plain black shoes or sandals
Black sandals with a back on them – no jandals 
Plain black shoes – no other colours or symbols to be visible
Plain black socks – worn with shoes

Optional
Black dress pants for the colder months
School jersey and school jackets
School hoodie
Plain black cap – no logos, symbols or writing on the cap
Plain black beanie for the winter  – no logos, symbols or writing on the cap
Plain black scarf (only) – no other colours/patterns

Girls

Compulsory
Grey school skirt
School polo shirt
Plain black shoes or sandals
Black sandals with a back on them – no jandals 
Plain black shoes – no other colours or symbols to be visible. 
Plain black socks or dark black stockings worn with shoes

Optional
School jersey and school jackets
School hoodie
Plain black cap – no logos, symbols or writing on the cap
Plain black beanie for the winter  – no logos, symbols or writing on the cap
Plain black scarf (only) – no other colours/patterns

Alternatives to day uniform

If uri do not have the correct uniform, parents need to send a pānui to the tari.  The tari will issue a daily uniform pass. 

Alternatives are:

  • Boys – Black long dress trousers, PE shirt
  • Girls – Black knee length skirt, PE shirt

Tumuaki Tuarua or Tumuaki may give permission for uri to wear other kākahu if needed (on a case by case basis).

Jewellery

Whakakai Māori, watch, small studs (gold, silver, pearl, black, diamantes), small sleepers, thin chain bracelets, necklaces and anklets, small rings, small nose rings.

Hair

Hair is tidy.
Hair ties and bobby pins are small and neutral coloured – black, brown, beige.
No other hair accessories permitted.

Facial Hair

Boys are not required to be clean shaven. They are permitted to wear short, tidy, and well-groomed facial hair with both the day and Number 1 uniforms.

Number One Uniform

The following information relates to the number one uniform requirements for all uri. This uniform will be worn for haerenga (trips), school photos, Rautaki Ako Presentations, prizegivings and other important kaupapa and events.

Boys

Black dress pants
White long sleeved dress shirt
School tie
Black school dress jersey
Black leather dress shoes
Black socks
Plain Black belt

Girls

Black skirt – knee length
White long sleeved collared shirt
School tie
Black school dress jersey
Black ladies dress shoes
Black stockings – full length

Jewellery

Whakakai Māori anake (kakī/taringa)

Hair

Hair is tidy.

The following information relates to the PE uniform requirements for all uri.

Boys and Girls

Boys and Girls

School sports uniform for sports teams
Acceptable options when representing our kura;

  • School tracksuit
  • School hoodie
  • School jackets (soft shell/tracksuit)
  • PE shirts/shorts
  • Sports shoes
  • Casual shoes in between games – no gumboots

No other branded school wear from other teams to be worn if not from that particular team or if the full team doesn’t have the gear eg: kapa haka jacket, touch gear etc.

No other clothes to be worn when representing our kura.

Uniform Supplier

New uniform items can be purchased from the official supplier NZ Uniforms which is located at 244 Tristam Street near the Hamilton CBD.

Their store is open on Monday to Friday, from 9.00am to 5.00pm, and on Saturday from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
