The haka was performed with extreme passion and power and the poi dazzled with their poise and control. Fierce competition by performers taking part in the national secondary school’s kapa haka contest made for difficult judging but delighted visitors watching.
And after the judges’ scores were counted, Te Roopu Kapa Haka o Nga Taiatea, from Waikato was declared the winners of Nga Kura Tuarua 2012.
The National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition was held in Kensington Stadium, Whangarei, all this week, with around 1800 students representing 43 groups from around the country giving amazing displays of their culture and skill.
