Pûtake 1 and 2: Foundation 1 and 2 (Generally Year 9 and 10) Courses:

These courses are based on levels 4 and 5 of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.  Many students do not, however, fit this pattern.  Where appropriate Kaiârahi will have learning conversations with students to ensure they are placed in classes that support their learning based on the curriculum documents.

The goal of these Courses/Modules is to set firm learning foundations (Learning Capabilities) that empower our rangatahi to learn key skills needed and investigate deeply what they are passionate about.

Pûtake 1 Compulsory courses: The courses that are compulsory in Pûtake 1(Year 9) are Te Reo Mâori, Te Reo Pâkehâ, Pangarau, Hauora, Oranga Wairua and Oranga Tinana.

Pûtake 1 Option Choices:  All students will select their options at the start of Term 1.  They can stay in the selected options for the rest of the year, or experience modules in other courses during the following terms. Please carefully look at the modules offered by each course.

Pûtake 2 Courses

Year 10 students choose options in the beginning of the year and can study these courses for the whole year, or study relevant modules across different option courses throughout the year. Again, this goes back to the learning plan, the student?s interests while considering options that the students may want to study the following years.

Pûtake 2 Compulsory Courses: Pûtake 2 students have to study the compulsory subjects, but they will be guided by their Kaiârahi to ensure they are placed in classes that support their learning based on the curriculum level they have reached in Year 9.

Pûtake 2 Option Choices: Student choices are based on their Rautaki Ako. There are 10  Pûtake 2 options on offer to our students. They can stay in a course for the year, or experience modules in other marau. We can also consider students working at other levels (either below or above Pûtake 2) depending on the evidence we have to support this. Please carefully look at the modules offered by each marau.

Please note: The students will need to fill in the Subject Selection Approval template. Once students have made their selections, they need to sign under each subject area to fully commit to completing all assessments to the best of their ability. Students will also need to get written approval (signature) from the subject teachers as well as their Kaiarahi to enter each course.  The final copy is to be handed to the Kaiarahi.
